simple plaisirs

There are times when we are out and about with our little ones that we feel like something sweet.  Something decadent.  Something entirely adult.  While we appreciate the cafes about town aimed at the little ones, think Little Nest, Kokopelli and Munch, there are times when we want something a little more adult…but still kid appropriate.

Imagine our unending delight when we discovered the petite Kitsilano boulangerie Plaisir Sucré (sorry, no website yet…but it is coming). Not only is it filled to the brim with decadent delights, it is welcoming to tiny tots too!

When you walk through the door of this heavenly bakeshop, you will be smacked in the nose by the heady aroma of buttery baked goods as only the French can make. There are plenty of treats to choose from ranging from amazing artisan loaves of bread, croissants, crème bruleé to brightly coloured macaroons that are the perfect fit for tiny hands.  A few tiny tables are available should you wish to stay and enjoy a baguette sandwich or pain au chocolat – which might be one of the best things we have ever tasted.  There is even a play area stocked with lots of great toys for the little ones to entertain themselves with while you are nibbling on French delights.

If you arrive on a day when owner Fabrice Roché is working, he will most likely greet your child with more exuberance than he greets you.  This father of two wanted his bakery to be warm and welcoming for all in the neighbourhood – from big to small – and he’s succeeded.

Plaisir Sucré is located at 2668 Arbutus Street just below 11th in Vancouver and they are open Tuesday to Sunday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. We like to make it part of a walking excursion as it makes us feel a little better about not being able to eat just one delicious baked delight.

  1. Thanks for always finding these places! I can’t wait to try it out. Though hopefully the food is much better than the last cafe mentioned (Lilli Q) as the food there is really not that great.

  2. And Lilli’Q has closed down, perhaps for that very reason! I have to say I found the food there good, but it’s not French pastry like at Plaisir Sucre!

  3. Hi there!!!, My Family and I would like to thank you for your article you wrote about our bakery “Plasir Sucré”, it really makes us happy to know that adults and children like our product, I will have to say that is Fabrice´s passion and hard work that he puts into it. Thanks to all the people that have already visit us and if you liked it will love to have you again, and for those who haven´t been there yet, we´ll like to invite you to come and visit us.

    Sincerely,
    Erika Roché
