Is anytime not cookie time? They’re soothing after a stressful day of tantrums (for our kids and ourselves), they help salve owies and they’re a quick, handy snack when you’re on the road. But while homemade cookies both taste better and are better for you than processed options, the batches we make at home never last more than a day, plus everyone has their own favorite recipe and we’re just not up to making them all. So it made us – and our family – happy when we discovered health(ier) cookies from New Moon Kitchen.
New Moon Kitchen evolved when vegetarian Eden Hertzog was in high school and couldn’t find healthy treats. She started by indulging in her love of baking to make and sell enough homemade cookies to finance a vacation. Well, the cookies were an instant hit and a few years later, in 1997, she opened up all-natural gourmet bakery and now you can find New Moon Kitchen goodies in over 60 stores, cafes and restaurants throughout Toronto.
All New Moon Kitchen’s products are preservative and cholesterol free and they also offer a line of dairy, egg, wheat and nut free kosher and vegan products. Everything is baked in small batches using just enough oil and sugar for taste and texture. Believing that “everyone deserves cookies,” New Moon Kitchen is a 100% nut free facility and they only use suppliers with the same standards.
We tested their Mokas, made with organic espresso, chocolate and cinnamon and fell in love at first bite. In fact they were so tasty and addictive that they were almost gone by the time we got home. New Moon Kitchen bakes six different delicious cookies, everything from classic Chocolate Chip to Momints and they also whip up chocolate cake, corn bread, bunny bread and nana bread.
They’re our new go to when we want treat with a wholesome edge and we’ve even heard a rumour that some pregnant mamas find their Ginger Snappers help curb nausea. At least that’s their story and they’re sticking to it…
