it’s not easy being green

There is no shortage of ‘green’ products everywhere you look.  Sometimes however, all these choices just add to the confusion.  Who do you trust?  What products have been green washed, and what products are actually true eco friendly choices for you and your family?  In between diaper changes and making sure our toddlers have better social lives than we do, most of us don’t have time to discover what is truly green, so we need to trust the experts.  And we definitely trust our local boutique Grass Roots.

Grass Roots first opened their Toronto doors in 1994, and they have always been super socially aware selling green and fair trade items.  They really know their stuff, they do all the research we don’t have time for and stock their stores with environmentally sound green goodies like cleaners, home décor items, stationery, green mum and babe must-haves and their newest addition, gardening.  With two stores (one on Bloor Street West and the other on Danforth Avenue) and online shopping they really make it easy being green!

We went to Grass Roots on the Danforth.  The store is small, well organized and easily navigable by stroller. We had no problems finding what we needed, which is essential when you’re out and about with tots in tow.  We love that they carry bulk cleaners, laundry soap and more so you can try something new without a big investment or refill a favourite product while saving on the packaging.

Our tiny crew was thrilled to see their favourite Tree House characters on bathing basics from Nature Clean and were itching to head right home for a mid-day bath with Franklin. We liked the organic cotton teething food made from fluff-free Egyptian Organic Cotton. With mushrooms, tomatoes, carrots and eggplants to choose from, we were thrilled to find a great way to get our kids to finally eat – or at least chew on – their veggies.

With a fantastic philosophy of only carrying products they use with their own families, and the Danforth location being easily accessible by subway, Grass Roots is a truly natural choice for going green(er).
