bare basics

Deciding what products to trust to be kind your wee one’s bare bottom can be a challenge, especially when you factor in sensitive skin, mysterious rashes and suspect ingredients. So we turned to the experts at DouDou Bebe for their advice on best meeting our babies’ bare needs.

Online boutique DouDou Bebe is the creation of Michelle Branco, a local mom of two who is about quality – and luxury -  rather than quantity. She recommended Erbaviva products to help soothe away almost any skin worry.  While Erbaviva is made with body-safe ingredients that are organic or wild-sourced, what makes it exceptional is botanicals at concentrations for therapeutic benefits, rather than aesthetic ones. Unique to Erbaviva is the Baby Washbag, a soap-free unbleached muslin sachet filled with herbal ingredients that both cleanses baby skin and leaves it hydrated.

We took Branco’s advice and put Erbaviva’s Baby Gift Set to the test.  A combo of lavender baby soap, an oatmeal baby washbag and mandarin baby lotion, the scents immediately lifted our spirits and, as an added bonus, eliminated the lingering odour from a recent diaper change.  And we’re always thrilled when we can not only easily read, but also pronounce, a product’s ingredients. We put the whole set to good use during bath times with our sensitive-skinned testers and found that the washbag did indeed do a great job of soothing our toddler’s chapped bottom and the shea butter lotion was so moisturizing that the kids practically slipped out of our grip during bedtime hugs. We also appreciated that the washbags didn’t leave any unwanted residue in the bath or on our babe’s skin.

It’s great to be able to rely on someone like Branco to do the research for us, after all, our plates are already rather full.  Next on our list to try is Erbaviva’s Awaken Room and Body Spray as we expect it’ll help perk us up for six am wake-up calls.  But in the meantime we’re going to borrow an oatmeal washbag and sneak in a luxurious bath of our own.
