Morning sickness. Some of us get it, some of us don’t.  Some mamas-to-be are morning, noon and night sick, some can eat everything but the kitchen sink.  If you are one of those morning sick mamas we have some tips for you that may help you to keep your tummy tamed.

Eat before your feet hit the floor
If you start the morning off sick, you are more likely to stay sick all day. Set a tray of easy-to-digest favorites like saltines at your bedside.

Snack snack snack
Low blood sugar can trigger nausea. Grazing on nutritious mini-meals throughout the day keeps your stomach satisfied and your blood sugar steady.

Take prenatal vitamins with a meal
Vitamins can be a big trigger of nausea unless they are taken with a large meal.

Stick to feel-better favorites
Make a list of foods that help you feel better or less nauseated. This list may change throughout your pregnancy (heck, it may change throughout the day), so make sure you keep it updated to help you avoid food triggers that make you ill.

Listen to your cravings
Your body may be trying to tell you something!  While the thought of a greasy hamburger may sound scary, it might be what your tummy wants to keep down.

Make yourself eat

Whether or not you feel like it, you have to eat something. If you don’t eat, you will get an acid-filled stomach and low energy.  And remember…you are eating for two.

If the thought of eating really gets you down, try this cool drink with plenty of protein, calcium and vitamin C that’s also filled with tummy friendly foods that are less likely to aggravate nausea.

Cucumber-Melon Cooler

½ c Cucumber, peeled and cubed
½ c Cantaloupe, cubed
½ c Honeydew melon cubed
½ c Plain yogurt
4–6 Fresh mint leaves, or to taste
8 Ice cubes
1 Tbsp honey

Put all ingredients in a blender, blend it up and enjoy!
