when you wish upon an owl

Everybody, and every baby, needs something special to love. And if those things are better for our babes, better for the environment and one-of-a-kind – like Wishing Owls – than they’re even more lovable.

Handmade in Vancouver by Lou Lynn, a local mama, yoga teacher and entrepreneur, Wishing Owls use recycled, re-used and vintage fabrics. A pre-kidlet career in the fashion industry made her hyper-alert to how unkind we can be to our own planet so although she does sometimes use new fabric and fill, her owls are made from recycled plastic bottles. An owl lover from a young age, Lou hatched the idea for her wise owls when she wanted to create something special for her own kids.

Our favourite thing about these owls are the little stars appliquéd on the back of each bird that double as a secret pocket to hold all your little one’s wishes and dreams. The owls are also a lovely, portable size – big enough to hug in bed but small enough to pop in a diaper bag or take along with you in a stroller. And they don’t have any bits that could be chewed off or choked on, so they’re safe for small babies while still appealing to toddlers and preschoolers.

And you can personalize your owl by having it custom-made using a piece of clothing you cherish. In fact we can’t think of a better use for your old baby blanket than incorporating it into an owl for your brand new babe.

While the star pocket is destined to hold your little one’s secrets, we like to gift them already holding a few dreams and wishes of our own for the recipient. And when the time comes, the star pockets are just perfect for leaving tiny teeth for the tooth fairy and tucking in the booty she leaves in return.
