So Young Mother

Taking your kids out and about requires extensive packing. Your diaper bag needs to be stocked to deal with everything from a blow out to fickle changes in weather and the stroller does double duty as a grocery cart. Plus you can’t leave home without snacks and drinks. And when you need to keep those snacks and drinks cool we find So Young Mother’s cooler bags to be a child-friendly yet rather elegant solution that definitely detracts from that Sherpa feeling that can sometimes overwhelm you.

Designed by Canadian mum-of-three, Catherine Choi, these cooler bags are PVC and phthlate-free and lead safe. At first glance they appear to be made from linen which is hardly child-friendly but upon closer inspection you can see it’s been coated to be water and grime-resistant. We especially love the silkscreened patterns on each bag – everything from surprisingly gender-neutral swallows to butterflies. And the inside has a sturdy, waterproof lining that won’t succumb easily to the perils of daily use.

The bag is perfectly sized to hold a few bottles, a large snack or small lunch. We’ve packed ours with as much as a sandwich box, thermos and a few other small containers and it works for everyday outings just as well as it does for daycare lunches. It’s also small enough to fit inside a diaper bag, handily snaps onto stroller handlebars or can be worn like a messenger bag or backpack – by you or your little one. Our tiny tester, who longed for a certain licensed fairy to adorn her lunchbox, was won over by her swallow-bedecked bag and proudly shows it off to all and sundry.

So Young Mother’s cooler bag is a stylish, eco-friendly and hard-wearing addition to your collection of kiddie carry alls (they make great diaper bags and lunch boxes as well). But be warned, you’ll be tempted to co-opt it for yourself.
