Since green beer and leprechauns aren’t quite our style, but green is, we thought we’d take advantage of St. Patrick’s Day to get tips and tricks on going green from Manda Aufochs Gillespie, a.k.a. The Green Mama. An environmentalist, writer, business owner and mum of (almost) two, she started The Green Mama in 2007 in response to the growing demand for healthier homes, spaces and products for children and their families, she’s also a recent transplant to Vancouver from Chicago.

ometimes it really helps to see the world from a different perspective, but it’s not always easy. A jaunt across the Greenheart Canopy Walkway at the UBC Botanical Garden, however, allows you to view the forest around you from up to 60 feet (17.5 meters) in the air, which gives you, and your kids, a whole new perspective indeed.

We’re on a pastry kick of late. Flakey croissants. Rich tourtieres. Sassy little tarts. But alas, these aren’t the healthiest of sustenance which is why we’re always on the lookout for equally delicious but slightly less buttery options. So thank goodness we came across Homestead Baking.

Taking your kids out and about requires extensive packing. Your diaper bag needs to be stocked to deal with everything from a blow out to fickle changes in weather and the stroller does double duty as a grocery cart. Plus you can’t leave home without snacks and drinks. And when you need to keep those snacks and drinks cool we find So Young Mother’s cooler bags to be a child-friendly yet rather elegant solution that definitely detracts from that Sherpa feeling that can sometimes overwhelm you.
