Crayons and colouring books are childhood essentials. As a mama you tote them with you to restaurants, the doctor’s office and on road trips. That’s why we’re always on the hunt for new colouring options to add to our ever-expanding oeuvre and these are our newest fave finds:
Nina Chakrabarti’s illustrations in My Wonderful World of Fashion aren’t at all Taro Gomi-like in look, but just like his amazing colouring books it’s not about colouring inside the lines, instead it’s about taking what she’s started and creating something all of your own. It’s a lovely way to indulge your little one’s girly side without succumbing to the mainstream. We suspect you’ll want to spend a little time creating inside these pages too. We did.
What do we love most about these Colour Your Own Costumes from online boutique Moojoes? They literally kept our tots engaged for hours. Designed to fit kids from three to eight you can choose from a Geisha, King, Knight, Nurse, Dancer, Pirate, Policeman or Princess. Each 100% cotton costume comes in black and white but once you set your kid loose on it with the matching Permanent Fabric Pens it’ll blossom into a riot of colour and then they can use it for dress up for years to come.
And if you’d like something else that combines colouring with play and is free, these Beauty and the Beast Puppets from artist Linda Olliver appeal to both boys and girls. Get them started on colouring and then encourage them to put on a show. If you’re feeling inspired you can even make your own puppet theatre to showcase their productions. Remember, we said if you’re inspired. If not, just have them use the back of the couch. That’s about as inspired as we get.
