little love

We’re of two minds about Valentine’s Day. On one hand we love letting those we love know we love them. But we sometimes chafe at the feeling of being forced to make those declarations on a prescribed day. Our solution? Small treats on the big day and then consciously remembering to spread the love all year round. So here are some of our favourite little treats for little ones:
Any child with a yen for fancy shoes will identify with the little girl in Eleri Glass’s The Red Shoes whose mother wants to buy her sensible lace ups while she’s got her eye on a lovely apple red pair. We love Ashley Spires’ illustrations that harken back the style of the ’60s and make the red shoes truly “pop”: www.chapters.indigo.ca
If you’re heading to less busy climes for the rest of February then Around the World With Mouk is a great book for travelling tots. Mouk takes you on a world tour as he and his animal friends introduce you to different local customs. And in addition to the story and jam-packed, vibrant illustrations there are also search-and-find games and lots of reusable stickers to keep your wee one busy: www.chapters.indigo.ca
Love is all around in My Furry Valentine. Kids love tactile books and this book is furry indeed plus it’s packed with all the different ways animals say “Be my valentine”. We’re not always huge fans of theme books, but we like this one as it can be reread as a reminder that we can express our love in different ways, in different places and all year long: www.chapters.indigo.ca
And which one of these is not like the other ones? Why our very last gift idea, an all-natural rubber duck. Made from rubber that’s harvested sustainably without pesticides and hand-painted with non-toxic, lead-free paint, these bright, squeaky ducks make great gifts for new babes. After all why not show your love for them and the environment?
We’ll be back tomorrow with lovely ideas for Valentine’s Day gifts for the adults in your household. In the meantime if you’re looking for other little gift ideas you might like some of these:
