mall tour

We’re not talking about seeing Tiffany or the cast of Saved by the Bell at the mall, instead here’s another idea for keeping you and your little ones active in this, our second week of quick, fun ideas for keeping busy during the Olympics. We’ll be back next week with our regular programming.

Though we love the energy of the crowds we must admit the thought of taking transit downtown with a stroller during the Games causes a bit of fear and trepidation.  And nausea. And then there are the line ups. . So we decided to go the opposite direction of Olympic activity to see what we could do to keep ourselves fit and happy during all this sports mania.

Our first stop was Brentwood Town Centre in North Burnaby. On Wednesday mornings they offer a free introductory Salsa Babies class put on by Runners and Booties Fitness.  We enjoyed getting our booties moving to the salsa beat, but did find it a little tiring on our back as our baby is in the 120th percentile for size.  But mums with average sized babies had no troubles at all. For one to five-year-olds, Runners and Booties offers a free introductory Salsa Tots class after the Salsa Babies have done their thing.

If you’re farther east, check out Lougheed Town Centre and their free Shop and Stroll classes on Tuesday mornings, also offered by Runners and Booties.  This class will get you moving and sweating and gives you a great opportunity to meet with other mums on-the-go.

Neither of those convenient for you?  Shop and Stroll classes are offered at malls throughout the Lower Mainland including Coquitlam Centre, Willowbrook Town Centre, Oakridge Shopping Centre and Guilford Town Centre.  Find all the details www.runnersandbootiesfitness.com.

Now, if only we could figure out how to get stroller pushing included as an Olympic event, we’re sure we’d own the podium.

Kids Market in Granville Island is also open until 9pm during the Olympics. It’s actually been a really nice “Olympic evening outing” as all the mayhem is downtown and Granville Island has some great activities and entertainment going on without all the crowds! The parking is free after 7pm too! (The signs say 10pm but the parking meter says free after 7pm so don’t be fooled!)
