This is a busy weekend, what with it BC Heritage Week starting on the 14th which is also Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year. Oh, and the Olympics are finally here. We’ve updated our handy Olympic guide to family-friendly fun around town too, just look for the red mitts to discover more happenings.

Kids Time at Lilli’Q Café: Kids Time with Professer Klunk & Pamela Sunshine

LunarFest 2010 Lantern-Making and Lantern Procession
Saturday, February 13th & Sunday February 14th, Noon – 8 pm, Granville Pedestrian Corridor (between Georgia & Robson), Vancouver
We debated whether this event should go in our Olympic listing but in the end we decided to keep it here. Make a lantern at one of their public lantern-making workshops from Noon to 6 pm, or bring your own and join in the lantern procession at 7:15 which will include stilt and ground performers, dancers and music to celebrate both the Lunar New Year and the 2010 Winter Games: www.lunarfest.org

Icy Worlds
Saturday, February 13th, 2pm, Welsh Hall, West Vancouver Memorial Library, 1950 Marine Drive, West Vancouver
Kids from six to 12 are invited to join Canadian Astronomer Dr. J.J. Kavelaars for a free afternoon of space discovery. JJ uses a telescope located atop Hawaii’s dormant Mauan Kea to search the sky for remote objects. He’ll be talking about space, building a comet and you could win a telescope: www.westvanlibrary.ca

Olympic Polar Bear Swim

Chinese New Year’s Festival

Chinese New Year Celebrations

Kick off the first day of the year with a performance featuring a Golden Dragon and eight lucky lions awakening after the eye dotting ceremony and dance to the beat of Chinese festival drums. The lions will visit each store to “pick the greens” and there’ll be two afternoon performances featuring more than 200 musicians and dancers: aberdeencentre.com

February 14 Valentine’s Day at the Power House at Stave Falls
