behold the turtle

Lotions and potions can contain carcinogens and toxins, which is why we’re always on the lookout for safer skin care lines for our tots (and ourselves). In the Safety Guide to Children’s Personal Care Products from the Environmental Working Group they recommend that we use fewer personal care products and use them less frequently on our kids; that we don’t trust the claims companies make and to check their ingredient lists; and that we buy fragrance-free products. Local skin care company Taslie makes synthetic fragrance-free products, with easy-to-access and understand ingredient lists and we’re happy to cut back on the number of baths we give our kids, if nothing else it streamlines their bedtime routine.

The creation of local mum and photographer, Tami Main, the Taslie line of biodegradable products is free of sodium laurel sulphates, phthalates, lanolin, parabens and synthetic colours and fragrances. Main’s goal was to formulate products that did what the label stated while being environmental friendly. She searched out recyclable and biodegradable plastics and recycled paper stock and labels for her packaging. Even her distinctive Tupper the Turtle bottles are hand painted with lead-free paint.

We’re particularly keen on their Head to Toe Wash that comes packaged in the aforementioned turtle bottle. Packed with ingredients such as organic rose hip and burdock root, calendula oil and aloe vera, we’re using it for tots and ourselves, so luckily they’re introducing a nice big refill bottle. We’ve also tested their L’Enfant Lemon Crème Moisturizing Conditioner which left our kids’ hair silky and easy-to-comb without weighing it down.

Despite the fact they use no synthetic fragrances, Taslie’s products do tend to be rather aromatic, so we suggest you sniff before you buy. We found the conditioner’s scent particularly strong, however the lemony-vanilla fumes rinsed away with the product and didn’t leave a lingering, pungent reminder in our testers’ tangle-free hair once it dried.

I use this product on my 5 year old daughter who has very sensitive skin with great results. Her curly waist length hair comes out silky, shiny and tangle free from the conditioner. I even use it on my own hair and just love it!

My German wife is very sensitive to strong smells but she can’t get enough of Taslie’s Head-To-Toe. I put it on the boy after his swimming lessons and the other mom’s always exclaim “Lecker!” (“Delicious!). We love the stuff.

My whole family have used Taslie’s products and have been so amazed at how our skin and hair feels afterwards. The Tupper the Frog design makes it fun for the kids to get involved in washing up too. We can’t get enough of Taslie! Thanks Tami for caring so much!!

Can’t say enough great things! I use all of Taslie’s products and really love them. Both my kids have sensitive skin and gotten great results. My daughter in particular, has long curly hair and the L’enfant Lemon Creme Conditioner is perfect for her! The smell is great, not too strong when you’re using it, and leaves a very subtle, but yummy smell after!
I carry the full Taslie line on my website, http://www.chictocheek.ca and have had wonderful feedback from all my customers as well!

My friend brought me some Taslie lotion when she saw naturopath, Dr. Carlson Rink.

I LOVE it! The turtle is so cute! And it does not hurt my dermatitis like a bunch of other lotions did. It smells very light. I like the head-to-toe body wash, too.

Mom and I love that the container will recycle easily in landfill – that’s important to us.
