gold medal music
Filed Under Stuff, Tips & Tricks | January 29, 2010
With the opening of the 2010 Winter Olympics just weeks away we thought it was about time to suggest a few tunes to help get us – and our kids – in the mood. Along with some rather obvious favourites, there are a few here you may not have considered. But trust us, there’s nothing like the resounding trumpet fanfares of Aaron Copeland and Bill Conti to inspire the athlete in you, or the motivating lyrics of Avril, ELO or Bowie to make you feel like a champion. So grab your red mitts, put your hands up, and tell us Can You Feel It?
- Olympic Fanfare – L’Orchestra Cinematique
- The Hockey Theme – Dolores Claman (the only way to cheer Team Canada on!)
- Gonna Fly Now (Theme from Rocky) – Bill Conti
- Can You Feel It? – The Jacksons
- Jump – Van Halen
- All Over The World – ELO
- Heroes – David Bowie
- Keep Holding On – Avril Lavigne
- The Cup Of Life – Ricky Martin
- We Are The Champions – Queen
- Fanfare For The Common Man* – Aaron Copeland & London Philharmonic
And next week we’ll be launching our very handy family-friendly Olympic guide packed with fun (and often free) ways to have fun while the games are in town.
All tracks are available to download from iTunes.
*Feeling particularly energetic? Check out Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s version which is almost 10 minutes of Prog Rock at its best.

Love it! Thanks to Pamela for great suggestions to get us inspired. Let’s hope that, indeed, “We are the champions, my friend!”
