it smells like bees are making honey

Is there anyone in the world more fascinating than your child? You document their every move on video and putative film, but what about their amazing utterances, first words and funny expressions? If you’re like us you had the best intentions of filling up those baby books but never quite got around to it. So this year we’re determined to immortalize their bon mots in print, rather on scraps of paper here and there, and we’re relying on My Quotable Kid, A Parents’ Journal of Unforgettable Quotes for help.
We’re looking forward to having a single repository for all the funny, crazy or oddly insightful things our kids say (today’s email title is just one quotable example that a five-year-old proclaimed on a fragrant day last spring). The book has lots of space for jotting down conversations or overheard utterances and it also includes a bound-in photo window to add pictures and personality. We predict My Quotable Kid won’t just be brought out and shared at family occasions but it will also become a treasured keepsake to pass along to your well spoken children when they’re older.
One of our resolutions for 2010 is to be mindful of those lovely little things our kids do and say that are so easily missed in the hustle and bustle of keeping everyone fed, bathed and clothed. We hope that recording their insightful sayings rather than relying on our increasingly unreliable memories will help keep us on track. Plus writing a few words here and there is about all we can manage in terms of journaling.
Oh, and this year we’ll also be getting our digi pix printed and organized into archival-quality albums and editing all our video clips into captivating little films…okay, maybe we should take it slowly and start with just writing things down.

This post was mentioned on Twitter by hipbaby_kits: sounds like a good read! @yoyomama_van http://bit.ly/4I8L9F...
I was an avid skiier growing up in Idaho. Since having kids though we have only been on a mountain twice in 6 years. Our girls are now learning to ski this winter and share the same passion. We would love a family trip to Big White!!
Big White is a great family mountain. Fun, awesome snow and love love love skiing there!
The last I was on my board I was 3.5 months pregnant with our first child and horribly worried about what damage I was doing to the baby! Now that baby is five, going to kindergarten and has a sister who is not far behind. They like babysitters, can handle us being away overnight (not that we’ve done that more than once!) and me thinks it’s time to do something for ourselves! Big White would be a big deal ;P
When I was pregnant, I made an awesome friend in prenatal exercise class. Our babies were born one week apart and we would spend a lot of time together. With very little notice my friend and her husband decided he would quit his job and strike it out on there own, and he would start his own business. The venture moved them to Kelowna. I really miss her. I would love to win this prize so, the dads could go skiing and the babies could have another play date:) and I could catch up with my friend, in person:)
2 words: Champagne Powder! While Vancouver’s local mountains are packed with people for Olympic events, riding at Big White would be an oasis of fun. I would love a chance to go up with my young family.
I would love to take my spouse and son on a trip to Big White as annual ski trips are something I remember fondly growing up, but it is an expensive trip when everything is tallied up. These tickets would be a nice start to starting our own family traditions.
The last time I was at Big White was when I was young and single. I would love to go back with my husband and 2 daughters to experience the resort as a family!
Its time to teach our 3 year old how to ski!!
I’m the friend of Dana Kaneko and I would love to see our good friends! After meeting in our prenatal fitness class, having our babies and walking our Vancouver neighbourhood for hours comparing notes on the little ones, it would be a real treat to share some time with them again! With being new to the area it would a wonderful expierance to explore our new local mountain and to perhaps make it a tradition for the families to meet up together on the hill :)
My husband is an avid snowboarder and he thinks it’s funny everytime he catches an open “yoyomama” page on our computer… he wouldn’t tease me nearly as much if yoyomama won us a pair of lift tickets to Big White!
I haven’t let him get away to go snowboarding even once this season actually – too much childcare stress and family obligations etc. But I’m sure we would make time to get away as a family with free lift tickets as the impetus.
I can relate to lots of the comments here about having skied a lot more before having kids. Since our 3 year old arrived our ski days have been scaled way back. Last year when our daughter turned 2 we started her ski education which got us out a lot more. Could always use more ski days though =)
This is my last year skiing without my youngest…I get up once a week with my big kids 10and 8. They call me Granny Legs…gotta ski tons this year as it will be all about teaching a three year old next year! Fill my boots!
