q marks the spot

Winter weather means you’re always on the hunt for fun, indoor places to hang out with your tots, which is why we wanted to let you know about Yaletown’s new Lilli’Q Café and Playhouse. Located just around the corner from the Roundhouse on Pacific, Lilli’Q has been open for less than a month but it’s fast become a hangout for local mamas.

The yummy coffee and baked goods on offer are encompassed by the Café part of their title, while their kids’ play area, whimsically decorated with a mural of the sea and sky and well-stocked with toys including a pirate ship, rocking horse, easel, tea set and more, is the playhouse.

Opened by local mama Jamie Knight, Lilli’Q offers more than just coffee and toys. They also have an upstairs space you can rent for parties and where they run yoga classes and fitness classes from Fit 4 Two and host family markets. And on certain lucky dates in January they’re even offering a free massage with your latte.

We put Lilli’Q to the family test and enjoyed being able to keep an eye on the kids while we perused the newspaper. We appreciated the layout which makes it easy to see the play area from all the seats. There’s also stroller parking and a well-stocked baby change area. The baby-sized spoons and bevy of high chairs are bound to come in handy but we do wish our lattes and hot chocolates came in reusable cups rather than disposable ones, even if they were compostable. Next time we’ll bring our travel mugs.

And speaking of keeping busy in the winter, why not combine your visit to the café with a free tour of Engine 374 just around the corner? And if the weather’s not inclement you could even take a turn on the Yaletown seawall. Ta dum, there’s your next Saturday morning all planned.
