Do you make your kids write thank you notes? We always have the best of intentions but don’t necessarily follow through. With the proliferation of emailing, texting, tweeting and the like, the opportunities for us (and our kids) to write by hand are constantly being narrowed down and the delicate art of letter writing – and even good handwriting – is being lost. But local mama Tracy Sullivan is looking to change all that with Design Schooled Kids, her newly launched line of kids note cards.
And apparently Sullivan’s a bit ahead of the curve as rumour has it that handwriting is one of the next “slow” things poised to make a comeback. Her line of stationery for tots promotes early literacy and the art (and pleasure) of letter writing but it’s also about interacting with others, communication, etiquette and thoughtfulness. With dotted “Thank You”, “Happy Birthday” and “Hello” cards in vivid colours, kids can practice printing by tracing the letters and then get creative and embellish the cards with personal flourishes. And there’s lots of space inside to write their own messages as well.
Design Schooled Kids cards are eco-friendly too. Printed here in Vancouver on acid and chlorine-free Green Seal or FSC-certified stock containing post-consumer recycled fibers, you can order them individually or by the box. Hmm…wonder if you’ll get a thank you card if you give them as a gift?
Our thankful tester paused to decide who she wanted to thank and then wrote her first ever note to her grandmother for one of her holiday gifts. She personalized the card in ways we wouldn’t have considered – which is why we gave it to her with very open-ended instructions – sealed it tight and even wrote her grandma’s first name on the outside of the envelope. Now which would you rather receive in the mail, that or your cell phone bill?
We’re pretty sure Emily Post would approve.

Very nice review of a timely and most delightful
endeavor in Tracy Sullivan, Design Schooled Kids’ note cards.
Good manners open up communication and make the heart glad.
Kudos.
I love that idea! These days we often forget to send thank you’s after birthday parties. This makes it easy on the parents. I always remember when a child sends a thank you card….and they usually get an even better present the next year ;)
