Today’s gift guide focuses on gifts just for you. Nothing big, just handy little gifts and stocking stuffers. You’ll want to be passing this along to your personal Santa with hints about what you really want to find under the tree.
Takui Bag: We weren’t sure anything could supplant Chico Bags as our favourite small, portable reusable bag but Canada’s own Takui bags have nudged them off their perch. Takui bags roll up to cell phone size, making them easy to stash in your purse or diaper bag and they’re made of washable, incredibly durable ripstop polyester. We think these would make great stocking stuffers and you could also use them as gift wrap – we’d choose raspberry and celery if you’re going the wrapping route. Find them at www.takui.ca.
Kleen Kanteen’s Wine Carafe: Sure you have stainless steel drinking bottles for your water, but what about your wine? Kleen Kanteen’s Wine Carafe makes it possible to take your wine with you wherever you go – be it a picnic, hike, book club or the beach. Each shatterproof carafe holds a standard (that’d be 750 ml) bottle of wine and won’t leach or retain flavours – so your chardonnay will never have the fine bouquet of shiraz. It’s an even better gift when accompanied by a fine bottle of wine. Find them at www.raspberrykids.com.
Soy Candles from babybellies: Did you know conventional wax candles can pollute the air (and you)? That’s why we’ve switched to soy candles – they’re a renewable resource, non-toxic, biodegradable and produce a brighter flame. Local company babybellies are known for their long-lasting soy candles, which are deliciously scented with essential oils that are safe to use during pregnancy. Their pink grapefruit scented Sanity candle is pretty much the perfect gift for every mama. Find them at www.babybellies.ca.
Ever Bamboo Charcoal Face & Body Soap: Bamboo charcoal is known for its detoxifying power and in a soap it purifies, exfoliates, moisturizes and absorbs impurities. It also has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties and is gentle enough for sensitive skin. We have to admit we’ve only put it to the body test so far and haven’t used it on our face but it’s a great body bar. It’s barely scented, very hard and lasts a long time. And because it looks just like a lump of coal it makes an ironic stocking stuffer, as you’d only want to give this to someone who’s been nice rather than naughty. Here’s where to find it.
Ecotronic Radios: Last year we alerted you to Ecotronic’s great battery-free mics but this year our Econtronic wish list includes their radios, which you power simply by winding the handle, batteries not required. Definitely a necessary accessory for the upcoming storm season, especially as the radios come with all the fittings you need to use them to charge your mobile as well. Find them at the Granville Island Toy Company.
Tune in tomorrow for the first of our two stocking stuffers gift guides for tots.
