best of 2009: places
Amongst all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it’s also a time for appreciation and reflection. For us it’s been a big year as we’ve had lots of growth and juggling and possibly even a titch of sibling rivalry with the birth of yoyobelly.ca last February.
Who do we appreciate? You! Our smart, funny, inquiring and inspiring readers.
And what are we reflecting upon? Your favourite stories from the past year. Thanks to all of you who took the time to vote and without further ado, here is your top pick for 2009 in places.
You’re big swimmers it seems, as our review of local indoor pools most struck your fancy. Killarney Pool got the lion’s share of the attention but unfortunately some of their kiddie amenities are closed for December though things should go back to normal in January. And registration for Winter 2010 lessons at all pools is already well underway but we did notice there were still spaces here and there if it’s something you’ve been meaning to do but haven’t ticked off your list yet.
Another great place to go with kids this winter is the GE Plaza at Robson Square which offers free skating (and skate and helmet rental for a small fee) daily from Noon to 9 pm until the start of the Olympics as well as live concerts and entertainment. From now until January 1st they’re open from 9 am to 9 pm, even on Christmas day. It’s outdoors but under cover and you can visit Santa there these days, decorate gingerbread men and make crafts. Unfortunately on the day we visited the ice was too soft for skating but luckily the rollicking concert made up for the lack of frozen water. If you laced up your skates at the old rink when you were younger, you’ll feel very nostalgic taking your kids for a spin around the revamped rink.
We look forward to discovering more great family friendly places in the New Year. Till then, happy holidays and all the best for a healthy, fun 2010!
