best of 2009: going green
Filed Under Going Green | December 28, 2009
Amongst all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it’s also a time for appreciation and reflection. For us it’s been a big year as we’ve had lots of growth and juggling and possibly even a titch of sibling rivalry with the birth of yoyobelly.ca last February.
Who do we appreciate? You! Our smart, funny, inquiring and inspiring readers.
And what are we reflecting upon? Your favourite stories from the past year. Thanks to all of you who took the time to vote and without further ado, here is your top pick for 2009 in going green.
The neighbourhood feeling and great products carried at the Home Grow-In Grocer made this your hands-down fave in our going green category. And talk about hyper local, owner Deb Reynolds only carries products that are made or grown in BC.
What’s on offer at the Home Grow-In changes to reflect the seasons. The summer was very fruity while the shelves packed with canned goods in the fall reflected the bounty of the harvest. And Reynolds is also launching a buyer’s co-op. You can buy a share (the prices vary from $250 to $600 depending on the size of your family) and from June 1st, 2010 to September 30th, 2010 you will receive fresh produce grown locally in the Fraser Valley and the Okanagan/Similkameen Valley delivered twice weekly. Harvested the day before you receive it, you’ll be able to pick the fruits and veggies you prefer and you can pick up your bounty at the store or have it delivered for an extra fee. Hmm…we wish we’d ask for a membership for Christmas.
We look forward to going even greener in the New Year. Till then, happy holidays and all the best for a healthy, fun 2010!
