Braun Thermoscan Thermometer: For some unknown reason we bought an anal thermometer when we were stocking up for our first baby but that was quickly replaced with the underarm kind, but now we’ve discovered the Thermoscan, which you use in your baby’s ear. We wish we’d gone straight for it. Pre kids you have no idea how often you’ll be pulling out a thermometer to keep an eye on your little one’s health, so a fast, effective one is key (and worth a few extra dollars). As long as you can keep track of the replaceable soft tips we think you’ll find this an eminently useful stocking stuffer. Available at London Drugs.

Eco-Me Baby Kit: You bring white vinegar (or witch hazel for super sensitive skin) and baking powder and Eco-Me brings instructions, their natural essential oil mix containing chamomile, lavender, calendula and petitgrain and everything else – from a bottle with sprayer to jars, lids, mixers and scoopers – you need to make your own natural Baby Room Spray, Wipes and Baby Diaper Freshener. You’ll be able to keep your nursery smelling sweet in a totally non-toxic way. Available at Whole Foods.

Broody Chick Wonder Balm, Every Body Wash & Every Body Lotion: We like these because they’re gifts for both mums, babes and dads too. The Wonder Balm is a perfect winter accessory, preventing chapped lips (yours) and protecting sensitive skin (baby’s) and it even contains Frankincense, which seems awfully seasonal.  Use Every Body Wash on everyone from babe on up in your family and keep their skin soft and moisturized post bath with Every Body Lotion. Just a note: the Every Body Lotion has little granules in it so it needs a good shake before each use but it will absorb smoothly and is surprisingly moisturizing for a lotion.

Lanco Frog Teether: You know your tot’s going to chew on stuff so we like to ensure that  as many of those things as possible are non-toxic. These teethers are made from natural latex rubber, which is sustainable, and they’re hand-painted with lead-free, non-toxic paint. Plus they’re PVC-, BPA-, Phthalate- and Nitrosamine-free.  Though these are made in Spain we’ve dubbed ours “Lanco La Grenouille”.
