It’s that time of year again. It gets dark early. The snow’s on the mountains. And there are myriad layers to wrap your tots in before you head out the door. If your babe has ever slipped an ice-cold hand into yours then you’ll have felt the tug of maternal guilt that comes from forgetting to snug them into mittens. But mittens, like socks, tend to go astray, so we love these bulky mittz from Stonz that are easy to wear and easy to keep track of.

Vancouver company Stonz makes useful kids’ outdoor accessories. They’ve just introduced mittz that coordinate with their well-known booties. Wind and water-resistant they’re longer than your average mitten and resemble gauntlets, with adjustable toggles at both the wrist and on the arm to keep them snug and trap in warm air while keeping out the cold and snow.  Mittz for newborns to two-year-olds are thumbless, while mittz for kids from two to seven have a thumb and an extra layer of rubberized fabric on the palm and the thumb.

We’ve put them to the bike riding and hand holding test and they passed with flying colours and we’re sure they’d be great for all your tots’ winter pursuits from sledding to snowball making to skiing. They’re appliquéd in fun styles to match Stonz booties and each size has a shelf life of at least two years, making their price-per-wearing reasonable.

The only catch? Older kids who like to dress themselves may get frustrated by needing your help adjusting the toggles, as the mittz aren’t manoeuvrable enough for them to do it themselves.

Stonz has also just launched hatz that match their mittz and booties so you can tie your child’s winter wardrobe together from tip to toe. Because if your kids are comfy and warm, you’ll all have more fun exploring the outdoors.
