snug as a bug

What parent doesn’t long for more sleep? Whether you’ve got a restless newborn or a busy three-year-old and a full-to-bursting to do list, most mamas we know long for more sleep. Well, SleepySheep’s wool bedding is designed to help you sleep better, not more, but we figure that’s a step in the right direction.
Though it may seem natural to be writing about wool as winter descends upon us, wool bedding is actually designed for year-round use. Wool is sustainable and has moisture-wicking properties that help regulate your temperature, keeping you cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Wool’s also “inhospitable” to dust mites, mould and fungi – irritants that can cause or exacerbate respiratory problems – and it’s a natural flame-retardant.
We’re both warm sleepers and allergic to wool, so we were sceptical about wool bedding, worried we’d overheat at night and get all itchy, but our fears came to naught. SleepySheep’s wool pillows come in a zippered pillowcase which means you can adjust the amount of filling for just the right amount of support. No itching ensued, instead we got used to drifting off to sleep accompanied by the faint scent of lanolin.
Their wool overlays are one of our favourite products. If an organic mattress doesn’t fit your budget, or your mattress has some life left in before you trade up, you can invest in an overlay at a fraction of the cost. It’ll both regulate your temperature and protect you against offgassing from harmful chemicals common to mattresses. And since they come in every size from crib on up, the fact that they’re machine washable is very handy. Ours has lived through toddler trials like throwing up and potty training and is no worse for wear.
Oh, and SleepySheep’s a local company. They manufacture all their products, including duvets, mattresses and even bedding for your pet, in North Van. So if bedding’s on your holiday list, why not get woolly?
