soft as a baby's…

One of the first parenting choices you’ll agonize over is cloth or disposable diapers. And while you may not spend as much time worrying about wipes, you will notice that conventional wipes add up in terms of waste. Even if you’re using reusable wipes – anything from washcloths and warm water to fancier homemade options – they’re not super handy when you’re out and about, which is why we like Nursery Naturals baby wipes as a portable alternative.
The creation of local mama Andrea Gregg Aylott, their “system” is comprised of dry wipe tablets, a wipe wetter solution and a travel case. And everything is alcohol, chlorine and chemical-free. You’ll find lots of conventional baby wipes billed as “natural” or “gentle” but a little bit of label reading reveals that even those may contain yummy-sounding chemicals like dioxin and benzyl alcohol, a neurotoxin which has no place near your baby’s bottom.
Nursery Naturals’ tablets are made of biodegradable cellulose from plant fiber, they’re whitened with an oxygen-based whitener and they’re hypoallergenic. They’re also washable and reusable up to three times each – depending on what sort of diaper blowout they’ve had to deal with, of course. Their wipe wetter solution is a combination of water, olive oil, vegetable glycerin and essential oils with calming, antifungal and antibacterial properties. That means, unlike conventional wipes that aren’t known for their germ-fighting prowess, these may help to reduce your child’s risk of illness by wiping away some germs and bacteria naturally.
In theory you take out the number of wipes you’ll need for your day on the town with your babe, pop them in the case, wet them with the solution and hey presto, you’re good to go. In reality we suspect you’ll find them so convenient that they’ll become your default at home as well. And because there’s no alcohol involved, they’re not drying for your hands or your baby’s tush.
Oh, and they smell really good and can help you on your way to stocking your nursery naturally and locally.
