got you covered

Filed Under Going Green, Pregnancy and Birthing, Stuff | November 12, 2009

There are lots of fun pregnancy symptoms – hearing your baby’s heartbeat, feeling your baby move, your thick, shiny hair – and then there are lots of less fun symptoms. Think morning sickness, heartburn and leukorrhea, which is lay-pregnant-lady terms means increased vaginal discharge. So what’s a leaky mum-to-be to do? Well, you could invest in a raft of panty liners but we’re more partial to Lunapanties, they’re friendlier to both your nether regions and the earth.

Lunapanties are a newly revamped offering from Luna Pads, a local company specializing in eco-friendly feminine hygiene accessories like cloth menstrual pads and the Diva Cup. But Lunapanties are our most favourite of their offerings yet. These organic cotton and spandex undies come with a built-in 100% organic padded gusset, making them perfect for a little bit of everyday backup.

And they passed the leaky pregnant lady test with flying colours. The soft, organic cotton is comfy and breathes better than disposable panty liners and the added padding gave us the reassurance we needed.  They come in three colours, black, cream and magenta and four styles, bikini, brief, hipster and thong. The hipster has been singled out as a great option for later in pregnancy. They’re also easy to care for. You can either pop them in the wash or, if they’re stained, pre-soak them in cold water or hand wash them.

We love when something combines practicality with eco-friendliness. They don’t contain any chemical residues, plastics or glue that can stick to your panties (or to you).  Using Lunapanties instead of traditional panty liners means less litter heading to the landfill. And because they have the same shelf-life as a regular pair of undies, you’re creating less waste overall.

Once your baby arrives they’re also handy for light post-partum bleeding specially because they don’t irritate your tender baby-bearing bits. And here’s another symptom they’re great for – light incontinence. Another of those pesky pregnancy symptoms that fall into the “less fun” category.

[...] High powered sanitary pads. The hospital will supply some but we suggest bringing along your faves and perhaps your Lunapanties. [...]
