whole lotta love

Where can you find an owl named Gwen who’s in a band called woot! woot! or Emme the monkey who’s known for her sweet disposition? Why over at socklove of course.

Vancouver-based company socklove combines striped socks with mismatched vintage buttons to create hand-sewn animals that they deem “offensively cute”. Each animal is unique, right down to their personalities – from Chenin Blanc swilling monkeys to owls who unleash their inner divas at photo shoots. You’ll find the odd (literally and figuratively) bunny over at socklove as well. And each of their personality-packed critters has a little heart sewn onto their bottom – making them a titch more lovable.

We know that once you have kids your stuffed animal menagerie somehow expands without you even noticing, which is why we recommend getting a grip on it and paring things down to a few select animals rather than a plethora of stuffie riff raff.  And no matter what their wine swilling tendencies, we definitely wouldn’t call socklove’s creations riff raff.

These are super snuggly for cuddling up with now the nights are getting colder. And they’re robust enough to stand up to a toddler’s tough love as well. Though we would suggest asking them to create an animal just for you with stitched eyes instead of buttons to make them safer for babies and toddlers. Plus then you could ask them to inject a little of your tot’s personality into the animal as they’re sewing, making it that much more lovable.

Each of socklove’s animals also comes adorably packaged in a brown paper bag with a little label identifying them and you can scoop them up online or at Hip Baby and Tartooful. We’ve also enjoyed perusing their blog for background info and pix about each animal, it’s well worth a quick boo.
