Halloween’s coming up fast this weekend and if you’re still a little behind the eight ball with your planning (we know we are!) we have a few last minute ideas for making Saturday spooktacular! We’ve focused on eco-friendly or reusable products to make your ‘ween a little more green.

The central point around which your tiny tot’s Halloween expectations revolve is their costume. We’ve seen lots of great ideas for DIY costumes this year and if you’re going that route we suspect you’ve already gotten started but if you haven’t, and you can’t face the frilly frocks and polyester pirate outfits you can find at the drugstore, check out Bouges’ great collection of capes.

Local company Bouges’ is known for their leather shoes for toddlers, but they also supply capes and ballet wear exclusively to New West’s Pedagogy Toys. A cape is perfect for anchoring any outfit. Just add black pants and a white shirt under their black cape adorned with silver ghosts, bats, and spiders and hey presto, you’re a vampire. Or a black tee, skirt and witch’s hat and you’ve made an ordinary witch’s costume extraordinary. Plus the capes will multi-task in your dress up box for years to come.

We’ve been hunting down more sustainable treating options and kid-tested faves include organic offering like Yummy Earth’s lollipops and snack packs of gummy bears and chocolate bug bites. Admittedly they’re still candy and have high sugar content, but they use fewer pesticides during production so they’re easier on the earth than conventional candy.

If you’re looking to cook up your own ghoulish goodies, try these fun and creepy homemade Halloween treats from Epicurious. And if you’re planning a spooky soiree be sure to check out these free invites from Oliebollen and don’t forget to play “dress the candy corn” while you’re there.

Have a happy, safe and spooky Halloween!

Today’s article was a bit of a monster mash trying to fit everything in and to make it even mashier here is some of our previous pumpkin-worthy editorial for more ideas and inspiration:
