stick a cork in it

It seems that no matter how many handy spots we have to write things down or to stick up reminders, we could always use more. Possibly a symptom of our multi-tasking, busy lives? In fact now that we have kids, things seem to slip out of our brains more easily, never to be remembered again. But thanks to Dusty and Corky from FUZ, we can increase our note taking and keeping options.

California company FUZ is all about smart, sustainable design. Industrial designer Josh Jakus (who uses factory waste to make bags of wool felt that make us swoon!)  creates simple, fun products for FUZ including these handy chalkboards and cork boards that definitely combine functionality with fun.

Dusty is a man or woman shaped chalkboard with an attached dog shaped  eraser that can hold a piece of chalk in his mouth. They’ve got just the right amount of space to hold a short shopping list, a note from (or to) your tot or a drawing. Our pint-sized testers liked dressing Dusty, who truly lives up to his or her name, up with a chalky happy face and a fancy outfit. And they’re formaldehyde-free and made of 100% recycled wood MDF core and scrap felt.

Corky also comes in man and woman shapes, but this time they’re cork boards that are useful for sticking up notes and reminders. In true FUZ sustainable style they’re made of excess cork board material with a recycled wood MDF core.

Neither Dusty nor Corky are particularly large, which means that while they won’t do for all your note taking and keeping needs they can be wall mounted in a handy nook or cranny or just propped atop a dresser or counter. In fact you could probably even glue a strong magnet to the back and stick them to your fridge, though we haven’t actually tried that.

It’s still relatively rare to find something that works for shared family spaces with aesthetic appeal for both us and our tots so it always makes us want to share.

Thanks for mentioning the Josh Jakus handbags! We absolutely love them! As they not only use industrial factory waste, but they are so stylish.

    Thanks again.
