frightfully fun

We’re not sure what’s more exciting, the lead up to Halloween or the night itself. We suspect it’s a toss up. So if your house is abuzz with Halloween planning why not add a little bit of green into the traditional mix of orange and black with these spooky, eco-friendly accessories.

You don’t let your kids draw on the walls (we assume) but why not set them loose on your windows and mirrors? That’s right, rather than decorating your windows with construction paper pumpkin and witch creations, your creepy little Picassos can spook up your windows with Lyra’s non-toxic Window Crayons? Using your windows as a canvas, your tots can go all free form and create their own Halloween mise en scène, or if you like things a little more formal you can also download these free Halloween stencils.

We put the pencils to the test and our tombstone-obsessed tots were over the full moon with their new canvas and the great range of colours. And you really can remove them with a strong wipe from a dry or wet cloth. Plus they’re not limited to Halloween – you can use them at Christmas or just because. And if you’re thinking costumes, Lyra also makes non-toxic face pencils and body paint.

Halloween’s all about the goodies after all and you can get loot bags in all shapes and sizes from pillowcases to paper bags to plastic pumpkins, but we’re partial to Green Planet Party’s Trick or Treat Bags. These reusable, drawstring cotton bags are almost pillowcase size and they’re easier on the environment (and your linen collection) while still being big enough to satisfy the most motivated trick or treater. In true Halloween style, they come in black or orange glow-in-the dark fabric.

Speaking of treats, we’ve got an easy recipe for toasting your pumpkin seeds posted in our blog. And we’ll have more Halloween fun ideas this Friday.
