Are you perplexed, mystified and worried about H1N1 (and perhaps just a little bit tired of hearing about it)? Well, why not go to flu school? You can learn how to separate fact from fiction, arm yourself with accurate info and ask the experts your most pressing questions. Then you can sally forth for the rest of the fall with well washed hands and a mind at rest.

On October 28th the Child & Family Research Institute (CFRI) is hosting one of their popular Mini Med Schools and it’s all about getting the facts on H1N1 from leading health researchers. You don’t need a background in medicine or science to attend, just an interest in the subject. The CFRI’s been hosting Mini Med Schools since 2003, focusing on topics such as the brain, child & health development and diabetes. This year, no surprise, their focus is the flu*.

Moderated by Dr. Stuart Turvey, the session will be all about the flu and how it’s affecting BC. You’ll learn how to best protect your family and yourself; the symptoms of H1N1; how the virus spreads; and how a pandemic will affect you. With expert scientists and researchers who can talk to everything from how viruses make you sick, to pandemics versus epidemics and more info on the H1N1 vaccine, this is your chance to get the latest info right from the source. Plus the event’s interactive, so you can ask all those nagging questions you have as well.

The Mini Med School takes place on October 28th from 7 pm – 9 pm at the Chan Centre for Family Health Education at CFRI,  950 West 28th Avenue and seating’s limited so be sure to register by emailing minimed@cfri.ca. And this year you can also attend Mini Med School online via live streaming video and you can even take part in the Q&A by submitting your questions to minimed@cw.bc.ca.
