This month in Mamas Rock we’re profiling Brandee Anderson, founder of Honeymilk Designs. We first introduced you to Honeymilk Designs last February when we road tested Anderson’s sexy yet functional nursing bras for ourselves.
Anderson has extensive experience with women and their breasts as a second-generation bra fitter, doula, breast-feeding counsellor and mum of one. This knowledge, plus her realization that there were no nursing bras on the market combining fit, function and fashion inspired her to design and market a well-fitting and pretty nursing bra.
Despite her awareness of the risks involved in starting a new business, with the support of her family, her friends and Langara’s E.A.S.E Self Employment Program, Anderson was able to bring her idea to reality. Networking with other entrepreneurial mums both online and at events has also provided her with valued inspiration and motivation for her business.
Working from home with no child care other than preschool has its challenges for Anderson. She finds not being in a retail environment with its daily interaction and camaraderie to be isolating at times. However with her son at extended preschool she is able to focus on her passion for her work and still have time at the end of the day for him and all the “great things he has experienced.” And for Anderson there “really isn’t anything better”.

Entrepreneurial Tip:
Anderson’s wise words for entrepreneurs everywhere are to “be passionate about what you do. Know that if you have passion and perseverance anything can be accomplished.” Having faith, confidence and flexibility are all key to managing the many curve balls that business will throw at you. And finally network, network, network!
