We’re always on the hunt for personal care products that are safer for us and the environment, so we were intrigued by Girl Power Beauty’s natural skincare products.

Developed by a Canadian mama and her three daughters, Girl Power Beauty’s products are free from parabens, phthlates, aluminum, bacteriacides and palm oil. And they’re made with vegetable proteins, real fruit and floral extracts, organic floral water and veggie-based cleansers, soy and natural beeswax.

While all that sounds good, after the recent SIGG brouhaha we promised we’d thoroughly investigate products that purported to be safe. So we entered each and every ingredient in their products – at least the ones that weren’t easily recognizable – into the Skin Deep search engine and we’re happy to say that they all came in with low or moderate hazard ratings.

To put this in context, all but one of the ingredients in Girl Power Beauty’s Really Raspberry Lip Balm, which reminded us of Bonne Belle’s Lip Smackers, has a low hazard rating.  Lip Smackers themselves have myriad, mostly unrecognizable ingredients and a moderate rating.

The Girl Power products are definitely aimed at tweens, offering a body mist, facial cleanser and make up, but we like the 2-in-1 Shampoo and Conditioner and Bath & Shower Gel for the under five set. It’s hard to get our kids to sit still for long enough for us to wash their hair, let alone condition it, so we love the combo. The Bath & Shower Gel isn’t quite foamy enough to do double duty as bubble bath, but it lathers up nicely on a washcloth for some thorough bath time cleansing.

We snagged the lip balm and the Awesome Apple Blossom Deodorant for ourselves. We’ve tried “natural” deodorants before to no avail, but this aluminum-free option actually keeps us pong-free in any but the most stressful of situations.

And while we generally don’t like products that pack this pungent of an olfactory punch, these fade fast. So you won’t be getting unwelcome whiffs of strawberry or apple blossom all day long.
