The fall theatre season is upon us, and as well as a stand out show for tots, there are a couple of mom-focused shows that we’re looking forward to:
Last year we caught quite a few of Carousel Theatre’s productions, Munsch Alley was one of our faves, but for the 2009/2010 season we’re most looking forward to Goodnight Moon & the Runaway Bunny. Mermaid Theatre wowed local kids and parents last year with their magical take on Eric Carle’s The Hungry Caterpillar. Their stunning puppetry and adaptation of classic favourites make their shows some of the best children’s theatre around. November 28th – December 6th, Norman Rothstein Theatre: www.carouseltheatre.ca
Mom’s the Word and Mom’s the Word 2: Unhinged are now bringing you Mom’s the Word: Remixed, some highlights from the first two shows. After being conceived in Vancouver by five local mamas/actors in 1993, there have been thousands of performances of the original two shows in ten countries and the original authors bring the bigger picture perspective on motherhood to Remixed, addressing everything from pregnancy to parenting teens (eek!). We’ll be catching this early in it’s run and will be sure to post a review in our blog. September 24th – November 7th, Granville Island Stage: www.artsclub.com
39… And Ticking! is an original musical written by Sharon Heath of local company Full Figure Theatre. A love story about Rose, who waits for the results of her pregnancy test in act I and then works up the guts to tell her boyfriend the news in act II. Rose faces her issues around dating, aging, raising kids and procreating through music, dance, stage fighting and more. October 14th – 17th, Studio at the Shadbolt Centre: www.fullfiguretheatre.net
Other live theatre you might want to check out this fall includes Bobs & Lolo at the Evergreen Cultural Centre, Axis Theatre’s King Arthur’s Kitchen at North Van’s Centennial Theatre and the Vancouver Symphony’s Tiny Tots series.
