soup & salad
Want to add some soup to your salad? In the past four years Molly’s Furniture Salad has become a fixture at 24th and MacDonald. Known for their collection of furniture and home accessories for kids – everything from new, refinished (by Molly herself) and custom-made furniture, from beds and dressers to bedding and accessories, when you go in for salad you can now get some soup on the side. Book soup that is.
Tossed into the mix in the store you’ll now find a little nook stocked with a thoughtfully curated collection of well-loved books. Handily organized into categories that include Nursery/Pre-school books for the zero to five set, including board books; early/young readers for kids from six to ten; vintage books for all ages; and seasonal and foreign language books, they’re also handily priced to be very affordable. And there’s a distinct lack of books with licensed princess or train characters on the cover, instead you’re more likely to find classics from Roald Dahl, Kate Greenaway and Janet Ahlberg. And a portion of all book soup proceeds will go to Literacy BC.
Furniture Salad is deceptively simple at first glance, but when you get right down to it and dig in you’ll find lots of goodies. Molly sources products locally as much as possible – everything from art to clothing – so we weren’t surprised to find some of our favourite local brands including prints from Cici Art Factory, clothing from Redfish Kids and kitchen sets and other accessories from Twinklebelle. Plus she has a great collection of finds from Eeboo including pencil sets, composition books and lunchboxes. Just in case you’re still stocking up for back to school.
We like how the whole of Molly’s collection is better than the sum of its parts, just like any good salad.

For the September Contest:
The Mama Renew topic that is most relevant to me (though it was hard to choose) is “The Village: Creating the Support You Need”. My preferred location in Main St.
