making the fair fun
Filed Under Events, Tips & Tricks | August 21, 2009
The Fair at the PNE is an end of summer tradition and it kicks into action tomorrow through September 7th. After an excursion to the fair last year we took away some tips on how to make the most of your time there.
If you’ve got tots who need to be home to nap be sure to arrive right when they open (11 am) so you can fit in as much as possible. The whole day can get rather pricey but taking the bus and bringing a picnic can help keep costs under control. Another key to making the day fun for everyone is setting boundaries and expectations before you go. Whether it’s number of rides or what treats you’ll get (or not), laying it all on the line ahead of time will hopefully cut down on meltdowns and whining. And if you’ve got a beginning potty trainer why not opt for diapers, you’ll save oodles of bathroom line up time and avoid accidents. Oh and bring lots and lots of wipes and a stroller, even if you don’t regularly use one.
Okay, now we’ve got that out of the way, what’s happening that’s enticing for tots? In addition to the Kids Playce with rides for those under 60″ tall, each day at 3 pm there’s a Toon Rock Parade featuring Garfield, Odie, Snoopy, Polly Pocket and more. And, of course, you can catch the ever-popular Superdogs each day at 1, 4 and 7:30 pm.
New this year are KC’s concerts each day at 3:30 pm daily. Showstoppers include Bobs & Lolo, Johnny & the Sprites, Choo-Choo Soul with Genevieve and the Doodlebops. And the Safeway Farm Country has added the Kidz Discovery Farm to their other attractions. Kids can try farming for an hour and learn about where food comes from by planting seeds, harvesting a crop and milking a cow.
Here’s a daily schedule of what’s happening and who’s performing. And we’ll be putting our tips and tricks into practice for our PNE excursion this year, so we’ll blog and vlog about it and report back on our favourite kid-friendly happenings.
