back to school in style

Whether your tot is starting preschool, gearing up for kindergarten or you just need to update their wardrobe for fall, the stores are starting to fill up with a palette of blues, browns and dark fuchsias. So we wanted to share a few of our favourite autumnal sartorial finds for tots. After all a new first-day outfit will give your child a boost of confidence as they wade into the fray.
For everyday basics like jeans and tees for boys and skirts and cardis for girls we often turn to Joe Fresh. One of our favourite items from their fall collection is their faux-leather motorcycle jacket for boys and girls (pictured). It’ll add an edge to any outfit. There’s a woman’s version too, if you want to go a little matchy matchy. And if you’re hitting Superstore to stock up for your kids be sure to take a moment to check out the new Joe Fresh Beauty line. For as little as $4 you can update your fall makeup wardrobe too.
For girls a must-have is Kuki Kid’s Corduroy Dress. Our tots wore out their Kuki Kid’s summer frocks and we suspect this pinafore style dress will get a similar workout. You can pair it with socks and a short-sleeved tee when the weather’s warmer and a long-sleeved tee and tights when it starts to cool off.
Stand outs for boys include the quilted Rider Jacket from local company Peekaboo Beans. It has zip-off sleeves making it perfect for variable fall weather. We’re also rather smitten with Ben Sherman’s Winifred Button Front Shirt. The guitar mini print will appeal to rock stars young and old.
Canadian company Huddy Buddy designs a great selection of tees for babes, boys and girls and they’ve just added organic onesies and tees to their collection. Boy or girl, just pair one of these with jeans and sneakers for a classic look that will never go out of style.
And if you’re kitting an allergic child out for fall, Canadian company Blue Bear Aware carries everything from funky, organic allergy alert tees to wristbands and badges and even safe snacks.
We’ll be covering all the back to school (or bts) basics over the next few Mondays. Everything from bags and gear to supplies. Let us know if there’s anything you’re on the hunt for or think we must cover.
