planta potty

There’s something satisfyingly cyclical about a potty that can be planted or composted once your tot’s finished their toilet training. That’s right, once the very cool Becopotty has done its duty you can drill a few holes in the bottom, bury it in the earth and it will biodegrade over a few years. Or add it to your compost heap. We also think it’d make a pretty darn funky planter – now that’d be a conversation piece.
It’s made of finely ground bamboo waste and rice husks – leftover farming materials which would normally be discarded – mixed with a biodegradable amino acid-based resin and then moulded into a potty. And apparently no matter what your babe deposits in it, it won’t start to biodegrade until you bury it somewhere warm and damp.
Our intrepid young potty-training tester has only just started giving up diapers, so she tends to like to sit and ruminate or read while waiting for the mood to strike. She found that for prolonged pondering the seat wasn’t quite as comfy as one with a higher back and wider seat. It does have a relatively high back and a large splash guard to keep things hygienic, but may be better for kids who can stop, drop and go, rather than those who are just getting used to the idea.
And no matter how pongy your babe’s business is, the BecoPotty will always smell better than a PVC-laden plastic pot that’s hard to recycle.

I wish I’d known about this last year as I avoid anything plastic wherever possible – but didn’t think I had a choice with potties. Great idea!
