where are they now: babyeats

We thought we’d take a moment to look back this week and revisit products and places we’ve previously discovered to see what they’ve been up to since we first covered them.

When Babyeats launched last summer we were intrigued by the new concept combining a large play area with a small café serving local and organic food. The catch? Based on a UK model there was an entry fee for parents and kids alike and people were confused as to whether it was a play gym or a café and if there was food for kids and adults as well as babies.

So owner and mama-of-two, Rachel Dempster, re-imagined things a little and now Babyeats is all grown up and has been rebranded as Munch, the Family Restaurant. Along with the new name comes a new menu, and it’s delicious and very grown up except for the kid-friendly options (of course!). And they’re licensed now too.

They’ve also added an outdoor patio which is the perfect place to sit on a Munch Nanny Night. A partnership with Nannies on Call means you can “do” date night without having to hunt for a sitter. For $15 a child, on Friday and Saturday nights this summer, your tots are entertained in the huge indoor play space – which is just as much fun, if not more so, than when they originally launched – while you dine à deux outdoors. Do reserve in advance though to make sure there actually is a nanny on call for your kids.

And we find the Lynn Valley Town Centre plaza out front is always a draw for kids to run around and get their beans out, just in case they haven’t done enough of that while munching.

Wow. Would love to dine at Munch. Wish I was in Vancouver. I would be there in… five minutes
