sole baby

When Jessica Jacobs, the mama behind the scenes at Little Soles, decided to expand her line of infant and children’s shoes to include shoes for babes, she was surprised to find that there aren’t a lot of safety regulations around baby footwear. In fact, your baby’s toys are subject to more stringent safety regulations than their shoes. It seems that Health Canada assumes that babies will put their toys in their mouths, but not their shoes. Umm…what baby doesn’t chew on their tootsies? In fact the first thing our mini tester did when we handed him a pair of Mock Mocs Baby Soles was to gum them.

Which is why we were glad to know that this a crib collection for babes from newborn on up to nine months is free of harmful dyes and toxins, including lead, arsenic, antimony, barium, mercury, cadmium and selenium. Little Soles is a Calgary-based company that’s all about informing consumers of the importance of recognizing and maintaining safety standards in footwear. Best of all they do it in style.

Our favourites include the Black Metro Mary Jane with Purple Hearts which would anchor any ensemble your tiny girl was bedecked in and the Cream & Brown Euro Runner, which would be perfect for a baby Beckham. Looking like shoes, rather than slippers, the Baby Soles line takes into account the needs of little feet including traction, durability and optimal surface feel for when baby starts to cruise.

And when your little one outgrows their Baby Soles, you can move them into Little Soles equally toxin-free Urban Infant’s Shoes and Squeaky Shoes lines – though we must admit we’re not huge fans of shoes that squeak. But we are partial to the Urban Infant’s Retro Mary Jane and the Old School loafer in orange and charcoal for little guys, because there’s a limited time in your life that you can pull off orange shoes, so you need to take advantage of it while you can.
