Dedicated Email: The Best Laid Plans

Filed Under Dedicated Emails, Pregnancy and Birthing | April 16, 2009

No matter how much planning and forethought you put into it, your labour may not go according to your birth plan. Or any plan at all. Giving birth is not a linear process, and just when you think you’re getting close to the end, you may come up against unexpected twists and turns. And accepting that process will make the whole journey easier. Which is why Aimée Sturley of Adar Birth Services offers Birthing From Within©  – Childbirth Preparation Classes.

Based on Pam England’s seminal guide to childbirth, Aimée’s classes offer non-biased information on the stages of labour, pain coping practices, postpartum and baby care, the transition to parenthood and more.

Speaking of the stages of labour, England compares them to the labyrinth, an ancient symbol of birth.  The twisting, turning path to the labyrinth’s centre – and out again – mirrors the journey of birth; when the path seems to be almost at the very centre (the goal is in sight!) it takes an abrupt turn away. Thinking of birth as a labyrinth can provide parents with an experience-based model for labour, in addition to the traditional, linear expression of the “Stages of Labour”.

And just as the labyrinth’s centre is only the middle of the journey, so is the birth of your baby. Travelling out of the labyrinth takes the same skills it took to arrive there – mindfulness, courage, love, the ability to ask for and accept support and take things one step at a time.

In Aimée’s Birthing From Within© Childbirth Preparation Classes the labyrinth is just one of the tools used to guide mums-to-be and their partners in engaging their deep inner-knowing that stands them in good stead through the path of pregnancy, labour, birth and parenting.
There are new series starting in May, July and August  – so if you could use a little guidance look no farther than Adar Birth Services’ highly acclaimed classes.

Aimée’s guidance, grounding and humour helped us through some of our fears… she worked a kind of magic in helping us open up and Viv and I grew closer because of these moments.” ~ Jennifer & Vivian
