In a perfect world we’d have time, energy and inclination to consistently whip up healthy, well-balanced, organic meals and snacks for our kids. In the real world our best intentions tend to get subverted by the ups and downs of parenting and life. Local mama Kalpna Solanki, the brains behind BOBOBABY, has recently launched BOBOKIDS, meals and snacks for kids made from healthy, organic, often locally-sourced ingredients. These will make you feel less guilt-ridden when you have to resort to readymade rather than homemade.

So far we’ve only dug into the Pumpkin Seed and Cranberry Secret Agent on the Trail Mix, bursting with pretzels, pumpkin seeds, fair-trade chocolate chips, cranberries and dried carrots. It won rave reviews from our pint-sized critics and became a staple for snacks on the run. There are just enough of the tiny chocolate chips to entice the tots, but not enough to make a mum despair. Next on our list to try? The Happy Berry Mookies – half muffin, half cookie (but healthy) – which rumour has it are a good breakfast for the whole family when you’re rushed.

The line includes frozen meals such as ratatouille, pasta and stew, all tagged “secret agent” because they’re packed with veggies and other healthy ingredients, but so yummy that your kids won’t notice they’re eating something that’s good for them.

So rather than beating yourself up about your culinary shortcomings, stock up on a few BOBOKIDS items that you can pull out of the freezer or off the shelf and serve on the days your expectations can’t keep up with your reality?
