flip off

Here’s a fun fact. Toothbrushes left on the counter are subject to whatever lurks in the air, including the water droplets that travel in an invisible spray for up to eight feet each time you flush the toilet. And if you keep them in a closed container they’re more likely to grow bacteria. So the best way to store your toothbrushes is upright, with no contact with other toothbrushes. Hmm, all of a sudden that mug with your family’s toothbrushes snuggled together is looking distinctly icky.

Luckily Flipper Toothbrush holders have come to the rescue on our side of the border. Fun, functional and hygienic, these animal-themed toothbrush holders attach to a mirror via suction cups and the “belly” of each beast shuts around the head of your child’s toothbrush. Vents in the sides let toothbrushes air dry and they open and shut automatically when you take your toothbrush out or put it back in.

Coming in a full menagerie including a bear, rhino, giraffe, puppy and more, there’s bound to be a Flipper that’ll make your tot..well, flip their lid. Made of ABS plastic, which is the kind used in the pipes in your home and is not believed to contain BPA or phthalates, the suction cups are made of phthalate-free PVC. And we’ve witnessed first-hand that they make kids more prone to want to brush their teeth.

There is no “where to buy section” on their site and they haven’t responded to our enquiries, but we found ours at the Granville Island Toy Company for $5.99.

We bet we could have cut down on the colds and flu that hit our household this season if we’d been flipping all winter long. And we’ll be putting the lid down whenever we flush now.

Speaking of kids and teeth, here are some handy recommendations from the Canadian Dental Association on dental care for kids.
