Two weeks ago we handed the conch over to you, and many of you very kindly shared your opinions, which we very much appreciated. We run our annual survey because we want to be sure we’re tuned into providing the yoyomama that you want. And we thought you might enjoy hearing a bit about what the yoyomama community thinks:

Well, you definitely like our short, sharp hits of info. Almost all of you find the length of our newsletter just right. Aside from our hugely popular Thursday weekend guide and “the one about parenting”, the top three articles that got the most mentions as faves were Safe Sipping, our 2008 April Fools article and our safer sunscreen info.

What do you want to hear more about?  Parenting tips and more info on food, going green and health. So look for more of that coming soon. And here’s where we get a little stuck. More than half of you would like to read more product reviews while almost a third of you would like to read fewer product reviews. So just like parenting, we’ll keep working at getting the balance right.

The question was also raised if our editorial review are actually carefully cloaked advertising. This is an important question and something we take very seriously. The central content in our daily newsletters is always editorial. We review products that we, or a panel of parents, have tested and given the thumbs up. We believe that if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. So we don’t bash the products we don’t like – and many don’t make the cut – we simply don’t mention them at all.

What is adverting? The sponsored links in the side panels of our emails, our contests and the extra emails we sent that are clearly labeled ‘FYI’ and ‘Dedicated Email’. We work carefully to align ourselves with advertisers of quality products and services, and it is thanks to those valued advertisers that yoyomama keeps on ticking.

Like you, we’re becoming much more careful with our pennies since the economic downturn, which is why we think it is more important than ever to make smart choices. We don’t promote over consumption, we promote smart consumption.  And if we find a quality product that will survive the trials of several siblings, then we think that’s a better approach than buying cheaper products that need to be constantly replaced.

And finally, congratulations to Lisa Bergman who won our great prize pack for taking the time to fill in our survey. She’ll soon be receiving a box full of goodies including ThinkBaby Bottles from EIO Kids; a Naturebag;   Green Planet Parties’ Party in a Bag; eco-friendly baby wipes from Organically Hatched; a $20 Gift Certificate to Once Upon a Huckleberry Bush; lovely  bamboo goodies from Bamboobino and an insulated Munchler animal lunch bag and reusable sandwich wrap from Lavish & Lime.

Thank you again for taking the time to let us know what you want. We’ll check in with you regularly for feedback and you are, of course, welcome to email us  your feedback at any time.
