Quick, when we say nursing bras what words spring to mind? We’re guessing sexy, supportive and styling didn’t top your list. But local mama Brandee Anderson, a second-generation bra fitter, breastfeeding counselor and nursing mother, is set to change all that with Honeymilk Designs, her company whose first product is the sassiest nursing bra we’ve ever seen.

Anderson knows bras and boobs so when she found herself unable to recommend either the pretty but ineffective, dowdy or glorified sports bras available to breastfeeding mums, she decided to branch out. The result is a bra that celebrates and supports “the girls” rather than squashing them.

We’ve put the Honeymilk nursing bra to the breastfeeding reality test. Not only is it functional but its got a high sizzle factor that rachets down the frumpy feelings that layers and leaks can inflict on nursing mamas.

Your breast size changes so much when you’re pregnant or nursing, plus bra sizes differ between brands, which is why Anderson will only sell her bras – which have underwire – in stores that offer professional fittings. Case in point, our tester found out that her true bra size was 34D, not 36B as she’d previously thought.

Didn’t think you could wear underwire bras while nursing? Not true – as long as the bra fits right, you’re not sleeping in it and you’ve settled into nursing for a bit. For answers to all the questions you’ve ever had about nursing and bras, from how many bras you need to the connection between bras and mastitis, you’ll find Honeymilk’s Bra Fitting 101 resource invaluable.

Priced in the same range as higher-end bras, Honeymilk Design’s bras are so darn sexy that we’d suggest buying one for yourself but telling your significant other that it’s a Valentine’s gift for them. You’ll both appreciate the support.
