spring into the new year

When is getting (more) organized not a New Years resolution? Why not get über organized with Springpad? It’s a new, free, web-based organizer that helps you do everything from plan your nursery, to track your household budget, to planning your menu and grocery lists. And that’s just a small sampling of  options from their Food and Recipes and Family and Parenting sections.

Springpads are basically free online notebooks that can help you organize pretty much every aspect of your life. There are heaps of springpads to choose from. You can track the holiday cards you’ve sent and received; the width of your burgeoning pregnant belly; your job hunt; your receipts; and our personal favourite, your notes to self.

You can also share your springpads with others, which we’ve found works well with pads like the Reusable Grocery List. We use up the olive oil and add it to the list. Our significant other chows down all the cookies and adds more to the list. And hey presto, no more tracking down and collecting little scraps of paper or wracking your brains at the grocery store convinced there’s something you’ve forgotten to add to your cart.

After a few minutes of trial and error you’ll find the interface quite intuitive. You can drag and drop items from one list to another, tag things and then search on them, and just basically coordinate all the aspects of your life, because when you’re a mum there are lots of them.

It is a new product so they’re still working out kinks and adding new functionality all the time – soon they’ll go mobile for example. Currently you can only sync the address book and your calendar with gmail and Google calendar, so if you don’t use them then you have to import all your info manually. And unfortunately all the springpads do is get you started, you still have to do the work to get organized yourself. But time put in now will save lots more later on.

Just think, you can be an early adopter and get organized.
