These days you pretty much need a full set of rain gear and snow gear by the front door for each person in your family. It’s cold, it’s wet, it’s snowing, it’s raining, and we need to be prepared for whatever the weather can throw at us.

Family Literacy Day is coming up, but there’s no Physical Literacy Day on the calendar. But if there were, developmental gymnastics, which has a large variety of dominant movements, would top the list. It’s a great way to help develop your child’s physical literacy by giving kids the foundational movement skills they need to successfully [...]

Last week we promised that none of our resolutions would include losing ten pounds in ten days, and they won’t, but most of us do annually set goals which probably include at least one of the following – eat less, eat more healthily, exercise more, lose weight or find more time for yourself. However, just like all the Christmas gear that’s been packed away, these goals are usually pushed aside and not pulled out for another year. So we’ve asked local trainer Hayley McGowan of BabyBumps Fitness to help us ensure that 2009 is different from 2008.

Want to indulge your online shopping urges for less? Then you definitely need a cuddle, True Cuddles that is. True Cuddles is an economically-friendly, new Canadian site that sources in-demand baby and toddler products and offers them to you for less. But there’s a little more to it than that. The creation of two mamas, Julie Baron and Sarah Milne, True Cuddles features one baby product each week at discounts of 40 – 70% off retail. And because they only sell a limited number of each item, once they’re gone so are the deals, so you’ve got to get your cuddle while the going’s good.

We’re finishing off our week’s worth of ideas for getting your year started off on the right foot with a review of Anne Morrow Lindbergh’s Gift from the Sea. In Gift from the Sea, first published in 1955, Lindbergh, the mother of five, shares her reflections from a retreat she took to an almost deserted Florida island to reflect upon her roles of daughter, sister, wife, mother and person.

It’s a quiet weekend as everyone takes a deep breath after the recent rash of festivities, but there are still fun things to do. And don’t forget the Lion’s Tree Chipping Events if you’ve still got your tree hanging around.

The holidays are over and you’re probably doing a little bit of judicious clearing out, purging the old toys to make room for the new. But did you know that along with the toys that came into your home over the holidays there may also be potentially toxic materials? Even though there are standards around [...]
