send you packing
Filed Under Stuff, Tips & Tricks | December 19, 2008
If you’re travelling with your tots over the holidays, the packing alone requires heaps of advance planning and since you probably already feel like a general setting up a military operation, we’ve got a few ideas to make your travels easier.
It all starts with sorting out what you really need to bring with you, so look no farther than this customizable packing list. Once you’ve got that nailed down, figure out if it’ll be easier – and cheaper – to rent what you need at your destination rather than dragging everything along with you. Wee Travel is a Canadian company that rents clean, quality baby equipment – everything from cribs to highchairs to safety products – that they’ll deliver to wherever you’re staying. After all, you’ll never be travelling light when you’re travelling with kids, but you can travel lighter.
If you’re flying be sure to check with your airline to find out just what you’re allowed to bring onboard with you in terms of liquids and snacks, because nothing’s more likely to make you cry than ditching a freshly pumped bottle of breastmilk at security. And if you’re crossing borders make sure you have all the paperwork you need to sail through customs and get to your destination faster.
Whether you’re travelling by road or air, don’t forget to pack some toys to pull out for your tots to offset meltdowns. We like small items with big play value like Go-Fish-Go or Choo-Choo Tracks from Educo.
If you’re going to be spending time in crowded spaces while travelling or away and you’re worried about losing track of your adventuresome child, why not kit your kid out with Haba’s Return to Sender bag? They can fill it with their necessary treasures and you can customize it with their name, address and phone number in handy tuck away tags.
Finally, when you’re closing up your house before you hit the road or the skies, take a few minutes to turn down your thermostat and unplug appliances like chargers, computers and entertainment systems. Since they draw power even when they’re not in active use, you’re not just being greener, but it’ll mean slightly smaller bills in January. Which is a teensy weensy reward for all your hard work.

I like Melissa and Doug products. We’ve had a couple of art projects that are functional items like a photo frame and jewelery box. And, there are lots of items made from wood, like the puzzles.
