Amongst all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it’s also a time of appreciation and reflection. For us it’s been a big year as it was our first full year yoyomama-ing and we won the SavvyMom Mom Entrepreneur of the Year Award for BC and Territories which has meant lots of growth and juggling. So who do we appreciate? You, our smart, funny, inquiring and inspiring readers. And what are we reflecting upon? Your favourite stories from the past year, so from now until the New Year we’ll be counting down your top five faves from 2008.

When we wrote about being slightly bamboozled by all the great bamboo products for babes made locally last January you liked it so much we had to follow up with styling bamboo products for mamas too.

Since then Bamboobino has expanded their repertoire to include sheets, bath mitts, baby socks, hooded towels and more. While Shoo Foo, has ventured beyond towels to include a lovely line of baby basics. Meanwhile, cotton-bamboo jammies from local company Dallas James Adventure Wear for Kids will be hitting the shelves soon.

Why is bamboo so popular? In part because it’s a sustainable crop that grows fast without fertilizers or pesticides and it’s naturally anti-bacterial. But we suspect it’s also in large part because it’s so very, very soft, which means children with sensitive skin – and their mums too – find it incredibly comfortable.

We’ll be keeping our eyes open for more kidlet clothes and accessories made of eco-friendly fabrics in 2009, and in the meantime, here are a few other lines we covered this year that incorporate greener fabrics in their kids’ couture:

yoyomama will be back in 2009 with your daily hits of helpful, hip info on gear, tips & tricks, events and more, ’til then we wish you safe and happy holidays.
