looking back @ eco-friendly toys

Amongst all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it’s also a time of appreciation and reflection.  For us it’s been a big year as it was our first full year yoyomama-ing and we won the SavvyMom Mom Entrepreneur of the Year Award for BC and Territories which has meant lots of growth and juggling. So who do we appreciate? You, our smart, funny, inquiring and inspiring readers. And what are we reflecting upon? Your favourite stories from the past year, so from now until the New Year we’ll be counting down your top five faves from 2008.

Our article last September on Sprig Toys is an ongoing favourite – after all, these very cool toys are made of recycled milk jugs, bottles and reclaimed Pine sawdust and rely on your kids’ energy to make them flash and beep rather than batteries.

Sprig has a new line of Eco-Trucks arriving in local stores (weather permitting) this week,  plus we’re sure that as safety conscious parents become increasingly aware, more companies like Green Toys and Sprig will be bursting onto the market.

But have you heard about the new toy safety legislation in the States that could potentially force small toymakers out of business? Find more, including how you can help, here.

Here are other eco-friendly, safe toys we covered in 2008, and we’ll be sure to bring you lots more in 2009:

yoyomama will be back in 2009 with your daily hits of  helpful, hip info on gear, tips & tricks, events and more, ’til then we wish you safe and happy holidays.

Sprig’s new eco trucks are already in stock at The Granville Island Toy Company (Main at 17th and Kids Market). They’re $19.99. Another shipment of Sprig Rigs are expected to arrive today (Tuesday).
