jump right in

Gymnastics, like swimming, is one of the best sports around for developing physical literacy. Some sports have only a few dominant movements, but gymnastics has a huge variety that helps kids develop agility, balance, coordination, strength and flexibility, all of which they can transfer to other sports too.

So when Jump! Gymnastics opened this fall in Yaletown, we had to check it out. Their great, non-competitive program is about developing physical literacy in kids rather than discovering the next Nadia Comaneci. And they’re the first gymnastics facility to follow Canadian Sport for Life’s Long Term Athlete Development Plan which focuses on keeping kids active for life.

Jump! Gymnastics offers classes for kids from six months to six years and the whole space is tot-centric from the kid-sized equipment, to the layout of the gym space which is spacious without being overwhelming. The teachers understand and teach developmentally appropriate classes for each age and stage. We know kids, who felt lukewarm about gymnastics after experiences with other classes, who look forward to Jumping all week long.

And while Jump’s focus may be kids, they know what parents want too.  Not only is their comfy parents lounge stocked with bevies and magazines where you can watch your child’s class, but the proximity to Yaletown makes it perfect for running a few errands when your child’s old enough to partake of classes on their own. Even if your only “errand” is to hit Starbucks for a coffee tout seule…

Registration for their second session ever starts today. Oh, and they throw great birthday parties too, which is enough to make us jump up and down.
